Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is an American reality TV show that includes a family who has suffered difficulties and thoroughly reconstructs it keeping in mind their current needs.
The show is a spin-off of Extreme Makeover. The Home edition first aired on February 15, 2004, and lasted till January 13, 2012, on ABC.

The family still lives in the house that is renovated during the episode. Brian is the youngest son and has two sisters.
The oldest daughter Larch is 25 years old, Moss, the second daughter is 23, and Brian is 21 years old as of 2023.
The kids were eight, six, and four years old when filming the episode in 2006.
Shawna was a breast cancer patient and her family was falling short of money because of the clinical expenses.
The family reached a stage where they didn’t have enough funds for crucial repairs to the house they were living in.
Failing in their own eyes, the family had to request help from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
The Extreme Makeover teamed up with Environment Management Consultants (EMC) in October 2006, to destruct and construct a brand new house for the Farina Family in St.Meinrad, Indiana.
The house was built by Jasper-Based Kerstiens Homes and Designs and a lot of volunteers.
Shawna and her family had gone on a vacation to Disney World. When they returned, they saw a new 32 hundred sq. feet house waiting for them with four bedrooms.
Apart from the house, there was a trust fund that heightened the Farina family’s happiness.
The fund was raised by the community and till 2006 it was $85,000. The fund was to keep up for the house and for the education of the three children.
Todd Kerstien, President of Kerstiens Homes, was deeply moved by this gesture of the community. He said he was grateful to be a part of this project, his family, and the community.
The house was 134 years old. More than 250 volunteers were involved in the demolition process.

The house originally belonged to a Denning family. The house was built in 1872 and Ted and Clara Denning bought the house in 1934.
The couple lived there until 1986. They had four children.

Shawna Farina passed away at the age of 29. She passed away of breast cancer.
The famous St. Meinrad, Indiana woman was diagnosed with Bosom Malignant disease, breast cancer, as confirmed by specialists.
She got the news three weeks before her 26 birthday. Continued chemotherapy and many medications were able to stop the growth of malignant tumors in the breast for some time.
She was the president of Relay for Life, a society-based fundraising event situated in her hometown for the American Cancer Society in 2006. She was able to raise $449,000.
Shawna Farina Extreme Makeover went through chemotherapy, radiation treatment, and even had a Bilateral Mastectomy as well as a Hysterectomy.
Still, her better half Steve and her daughters loved her a lot and reminded her every day.
Shawna felt inspired and motivated to do something better for the cancer society.
What was amazing is within five years in a town of only 600 people, Shawna was able to collect nearly half a million dollars.
Shawna’s mother also had breast cancer at the age of 29. She grew up watching her mother fight cancer.
Her mother always remained sick but never showed it to her kids. Her mother’s fighting spirit inspired Shawna.
Due to all these expenses, the family could not provide essential repairs to the house.
What Happened To Extreme Makeover Home Edition?
Extreme Makeover Home Edition was canceled by ABC on January 13, 2012. The show was on its ninth season.
It was on December 15, 2011, the original network ABC disclosed the halt end of the popular reality series.
The show featured emotional stories with host Ty Pennington and other designers.
The show targeted such houses battling with finance, single parent, health issues family, and many more and turned the house into a brand new, clean atmosphere free of cost.
The reason for the cancellation could be a low rating. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the show was struggling to sustain viewers after changing its Sunday night slot to Friday night.
Apart from that the show also faced severe competition from two reality shows. One was Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares, and the other was ABC’s Once Upon a Time.
Another main and actual reason the show started falling apart was the result of the makeover.
No doubt the families were happy to see their new house but with luxury came high taxes, bills, and maintenance costs.
HGTV on January 15, 2019, disclosed to revive the series again. It premiered on February 2020 with ten episodes until April 2020.
Again the series reran on Discovery Family from April 2020 to September 2022.
