Jennifer Watkins’s grandmother was sentenced to 55 years in jail after she shot her estranged husband Steven to death in 2008.

Jennifer Watkins got herself involved in an ugly custody battle with her in-laws after she moved to Florida to avoid court-ordered paternal visitation.

Watkins’ in-laws were granted the rights to visit their granddaughter, Sidney, after their son Steven Watkins was murdered in 2008.

She managed to escape law enforcement for years before she was arrested by the local police authorities. She was jailed for a while but was ultimately released.

In 2016, she tried to flee with her daughter once again and was arrested. Her kid was sent to live with her paternal aunt Ashley Clement, who also ended up becoming her permanent guardian.

Dateline: Everything To Know About Jennifer Watkins Husband Murder

Jennifer Watkins is a woman from Illinois who was involved in one of the longest and bitter child custody battles with her in-laws after the death of her estranged husband.

In 2008, Jennifer was in the middle of a divorce with her husband Steven Watkins. The couple had one daughter, Sidney.

She lived separately from Steven and took their daughter with her when she moved in with her grandmother Shirley Skinner.

Steven, who longed to see his daughter, came to pick up Sidney for a court-ordered visit one day at Shirley’s house. However, the elderly lady instead shot him to death.

Jennifer was not present at the time shooting. After his death, Steven’s parents appealed and won visitation rights to see their granddaughter in 2010.

Rather than granting them to visit Sidney, Ms. Watkins fled to Florida with her daughter and stayed there for several years before she was arrested in 2016 for avoiding court-ordered pattern grandparent visitation.

This ensued a decade-long custody battle. In the end, Jennifer gave up the custody of her Sidney to the girl’s paternal aunt.
