Forbes started her musical career by forming a band and recording a solo album. She sang the song “Ordinary Girl” for the Clueless TV series and “Que Sera Sera” for the In the Cut movie credits. Although staying in Portland, Oregon, Lauderdale invited her to perform for Pink Martini, a band he had formed to play for progressive fundraisers.
Following three years of commuting from New York, she relocated to Portland in 1998 to work full time with the band. Forbes and Lauderdale co-wrote the band’s smash “Sympathique” among many other original songs. Including her work with Pink Martini, she recorded solo albums, including Love Handle November 1995 and’ 78 (Heinz2008), which included her single “Hey Eugene” in its original version.
